Under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009 issued by the Ministry of Health Malaysia(MOH), all food handlers are compulsory to be trained in food handling course(Kursus Latihan Pengendali Makanan).
Any food handler who works in any food premises that failed to undergo food handling training, may be fined up to RM 10,000 or jailed not more than 2 years.
Food handlers include restaurant workers, street hawkers and all workers serving up ready-to-eat food in the food and beverage industry.
Beside that the requirements also include having their staff administered with anti-typhoid vaccination
Take for example,the Raj’s Banana Leaf has suffered a lot of backlash from Malaysians and the authorities after failing to abide by the rules and regulations in June 2018.
At the end of August, it reopened after major renovations and several rounds of inspections by DBKL and the Health Ministry’s food and safety division.
The restaurant employees also completed a food handling course conducted by a trainer certified and registered with the Health Ministry.
This three-hour training course are provided by ministry-endorsed food-handler training institutes（Sekolah Latihan Pengendalian Makanan ).
The syllabus covers topics such as Good Food Hygiene, Food Safety and Food-borne llnesses.
The course fee RM50 per pax is inclusive of certificate and workbook as in accordance to the requirements of Ministry of Health.The participants will received a “lifetime” certificate of attendance at the end of the course.
